The Prime Minister of India has not yet decided whether he will participate in person. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that his country will be represented at the Peace Summit in Switzerland to end the war in Ukraine, which will take place on June 15–16. However, the Indian Prime Minister did not specify whether he would directly participate in the summit.
“India will participate in all important summits that advance the agenda of global peace, security, and development,” said Modi, commenting on the invitation to participate in the peace summit regarding Ukraine, reports The Press Trust of India.
The prime minister said he intended to “carry the voice of the Global South” at this and other summits to “shape the global discourse and advance a vision of human-centered development and a prosperous and peaceful world.”.
“The level of participation will depend on timing, logistics, and concurrent commitments,” Modi said when asked about his personal presence at the peace summit.
We will remind you that the government of Switzerland, which will host the Peace Summit on ending the war in Ukraine on June 15–16, expects that the list of participating countries will be published shortly before the start of the summit.
Earlier, Swiss President Viola Amherd announced that China and the countries of the Global South (Brazil, India, and South Africa) were invited to the Peace Summit. In March, China’s ambassador to Switzerland, Wang Shihting, said that his country was “considering the possibility of participation.”
