A Japanese “AI supercomputer” is being developed by Softbank Group in partnership with the multinational technology company Nvidia. The project was presented during the Al Summit Japan in Tokyo, which is taking place this week.
A 5G and AI-powered telecommunications network has been tested by the collaboration. In Kanagawa Prefecture, some of these tests were conducted, and the companies thought the results satisfactory. With the help of Nvidia’s Blackwell processors, the collaboration hopes to turn cellular base stations into a nationwide AI network.
According to the companies, the establishment of a nationwide AI network supported by 5G infrastructure would facilitate quicker and more intelligent device and system communication. Despite the successful trials, details on the implementation timeline and technical aspects have not yet been announced.
During the event, Masayoshi Son, the founder of Softbank, stated that Japan is about to undergo a “change.” The Japanese government has shown encouraging signs this time, he said, allocating resources and infrastructure investments for communications technology projects nationwide. He had previously criticized the Japanese government for its sluggish adoption of new technologies.
