Microsoft is secretly developing a new AI language model to compete with the artificial intelligence technology (AI) language model of Open AI, the maker of Google and ChatGPT. According to a report from The Information, the business is currently training its new language model on a variety of topics.
Inside, the new AI language model is referred to as “MAI 1,” according to two Microsoft staff members who asked to remain anonymous. This is being overseen by Mustafa Suleyman, a co-founder of DeepMind and the former CEO of an AI startup called Inflection. He became head of consumer AI at Microsoft in March of last year. Microsoft hasn’t, however, made any formal announcements regarding the new AI model.

Microsoft debuted Phi-3-Mini, an AI model, last month. But it’s anticipated that the MAI1 model will be larger than the previous one. It can thus easily compete with the AI language models developed by OpenAI and Google. It’s possible that a preview of the new model will be released prior to Microsoft’s developer conference the following month.
