Vietnamese President Vo Van Thuong has resigned. The Vietnamese Communist Party accepted his resignation. This information was provided by the country’s government on Wednesday.
In a statement, the Communist Party said Thuong violated party policy. His actions had a negative impact on public opinion. Not only has the party hurt his reputation, but the nation’s as well.
Vo Van Thuong was elected president a year ago. Â In Vietnam, a country of one-party rule, the position of president is only official. It is one of the top four positions in the country. The party’s central committee, the Central Party Committee, takes the final decisions regarding party and governance.
The statement did not make it clear what Thuong’s faults were. However, it is believed to be related to the recently launched anti-bribery operation in the country. Although the party called it an anti-corruption campaign, many claim that this campaign was started mainly due to internal conflicts within the party.
