The Competition Commission had earlier ordered the cancellation of Google’s 15%-30% tax structure. But Google got the consent of two courts, including the Supreme Court, to impose a penalty in this case and to remove the app if it is not paid.
Google has started removing Indian apps from the Play Store that do not pay service charges. A total of 10 apps have been removed from there by the American IT company. The Competition Commission had earlier ordered the cancellation of Google’s 15%-30% tax structure. But Google got the consent of two courts, including the Supreme Court, to impose a penalty in this case and to remove the app if it is not paid. But after they imposed 11%-26% tax, some Indian start-up companies tried to stop it. They claim that Google is forcing companies to follow their own methods of paying for app usage due to their monopoly.
Although Google did not reveal the names of the removed apps today, they reportedly include Shaadi, Matrimony.com, Bharat Matrimony, audio app Kuku FM and two dating apps. Murugavel Janakiraman, founder of Bharat Matrimony, claims that this is the country’s ‘black day’ in terms of internet services. Kuku FM co-founder Vinod Kumar Meena says Google is taking advantage of its monopoly. Sanjeev Bikhchandani, founder of InfoAge, also advocated creating an app or play store for everyone as part of the digital framework at X.
