Instagram is launching a ‘Friend Map’ feature to share your location information, similar to Snapchat’s Snap Map. When the new feature is launched, people who follow nearby accounts will be automatically notified of their updated location information. This allows Instagram users to communicate directly with each other. Although Instagram has not made an official announcement about this, popular app-researcher Alessandro Paluzzi has given this information in a message to X (formerly Twitter).
According to Alessandro Paluzzi, Instagram is currently working on a friend map feature. Users can turn on or off the friend map feature associated with Instagram’s ‘Nearby’ feature at any time. This will not compromise users’ personal privacy.

Reportedly, the Friend Map feature will show the location of known people on a map similar to Snapchat’s Snap Map. As a result, friends can quickly find each other on campus or at specific locations. Parents will also get an opportunity to know the location of the child. This new facility can be used on all devices running on Android and iOS operating systems.
