Amazon launched Haul on Wednesday (Nov. 13, 2024), a new online store exclusively for mobile devices in the United States. The platform sells products with maximum prices of US$ 20 and promises delivery within two weeks.
The move marks the company’s entry into the low-cost market, currently dominated by Chinese platforms such as Temu and Shein. More than half of the items cost less than US$10.
Haul sells electronics, home items, fashion, and lifestyle items. For purchases over $50, the platform offers a 5% discount; for orders over $75, the discount rises to 10%. Orders over $25 are eligible for free shipping.
“We continue to explore ways that we can work with our selling partners so they can offer products at ultra-low prices,” said Dharmesh Mehta, vice president of worldwide selling partnerships at Amazon. The company says all are backed by Amazon’s A-to-Z product guarantee, so customers can shop with confidence.
Digital business strategy experts Sucharita Kodali issued a warning about the business model’s potential dangers to the environment. “Temu and Shein have come under fire for taking advantage of import loopholes and being environmentally irresponsible,” she told BBC News.
The European Commission opened proceedings against Temu in October 2024 on suspicion of selling illegal products on the platform.
