Grammy Award winner Malcolm-Jamal Warner, who was best known for his role as Huxtable on The Cosby Show, has died of an apparent drowning at the age of 54, TMZ reported.
Costa Rica’s Judicial Investigation Department told Newsweek that officials have identified the body of a man who died “from asphyxia by submersion on Sunday.” The man died near Cocles, a beach in Puerto Viejo de Limon, according to the department.
The department said the victim entered the sea and was pulled by the current. He was treated at the scene but was later declared dead, and his body has been sent to the Judicial Morgue for an autopsy.
The department later said the 54-year-old man was identified as an American male with the last name Warner.
Warner, who has been acting in television for a long time, married a woman in 2017 and has a daughter, but he has not revealed the name and identity of his wife, according to People.
Warner achieved his greatest success when he won a Grammy Award in 2015 in the category of “Best Traditional R&B Performance” for the song “Jesus Children.”
Nominated for a Grammy for Best Spoken Word Poetry Album in 2023, Warner directed music videos and episodes of sitcoms, including The Cosby Show and Kenan & Kel.
