Five people were killed in a stabbing attack at a shopping mall in the seaside suburb of Bondi in Sydney, Australia. Some were hospitalized with serious injuries. A child is among the injured. Later, the suspected attacker was also killed in a police firing.
According to the police, just before 4 p.m. local time, the emergency services received a report of the attack at the Westfield Bondi Junction shopping mall in Australia. The attacker stabbed nine people.
In a press conference, New South Wales Police Assistant Commissioner Anthony Cook said, “He (the police officer) disarmed the attacker.” That person is now dead. I have come to know that five people have died in this incident.’
Cook also said that they did not know what the attacker’s motive was.
A witness told the Australian media ABC that the attacker was killed by the police. If he had not shot at that time, the attacker would have stabbed more people. He was jogging.
In this incident, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese wrote in a post on social media X, ‘Our condolences to the injured. We are grateful to the courageous police officers and emergency personnel who helped them.’
