The US and China are in a cold war over control of the semiconductor industry. To solve this problem, engineers at the University of Pennsylvania in the United States have developed a chip based on artificial intelligence (AI) technology. The new chip is expected to provide added benefits to the complex task of training artificial intelligence technology. Light waves have been used instead of electricity to make this chip. As a result, the computer will consume less power during complex tasks. The silicon-photonic artificial intelligence chip was designed by scientist Nader Ngeta.
A paper about the new chip has been published in the journal Nature Photonics. Feroze Aflatuni, an associate professor at the University of Pennsylvania, is involved in the research to develop the new chip. Nader Ngeta and Feroze Aflatuni are currently working together to create a platform. This platform will enhance the development and performance of neural networks. In this regard, scientist Ngeta said, the new chip can be used to make a graphics processing unit or GPU. The silicon photonics platform will provide additional advantages in chip manufacturing.

Feroze Aflatuni said the new chip will increase the speed and power of computers while providing considerable privacy benefits. This chip has simultaneous computing capabilities, which will eliminate the need to store sensitive information in computer memory. A computer running on the chip cannot be easily hacked. As a result, there will be major changes in the current AI computing technology.
