U.S. President Donald Trump arrived at a UFC event in Miami on Saturday night, April 12, accompanied by several top members of his administration, chanting “U-S-A” and receiving a standing ovation as he greeted fellow spectators, Newsweek reported.
Trump, a well-known sports fan, is evidenced by his attendance at a UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) event at Madison Square Garden in New York in mid-November, shortly after he was re-elected.
At that moment, Trump was dancing to “YMCA” as the song blasted through the speakers, as he did in Miami on Saturday. In addition to being a sports fan, Trump’s close ties to the UFC have been credited with boosting his popularity among young male voters.
Trump attended UFC 314 at Miami’s Kaseya Center, waving to a crowd filled with red MAGA caps and American flags, along with his granddaughter, Kai Trump, who is the daughter of Donald Trump Jr. (the eldest child of Trump and his first wife, Ivana Trump).
Trump shared two separate clips on his social media platform, Truth Social, one of which shows him entering the field and shaking hands with supporters, and the second of which shows him raising his hands in a fist as chants of “U-S-A” are heard from the crowd.
According to Newsweek, senior officials from his administration were present at the UFC event, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, and FBI Director Kash Patel. The president also entered the event with UFC CEO and President Dana White, a longtime supporter of Trump.
Trump sat next to Elon Musk, the wealthy man and current head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), and podcast host and UFC commentator Joe Rogan.
White House communications chief Steven Cheung, 42, who was also in attendance Saturday night, told CNN the president and the UFC are “cultural icons.”
On Saturday night, Australia’s Alexander Volkanovski regained his title as featherweight champion with a unanimous decision win over Brazilian Diego Lopes at UFC 314, while England’s Paddy Pimblett secured a third-round TKO victory over Michael Chandler.
