Tesla Cybertruck explodes in front of Trump’s hotel in Las Vegas
Earlier in the year, a Tesla Cybertruck burst into flames outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas on Wednesday (1 Jan 2025), killing the driver and injuring seven people.
According to Reuters, the FBI is investigating whether the blast was an act of terrorism. At a press conference after the incident, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Sheriff Kevin McMahill said it was a ‘cyber truck’ and there are many questions to be answered about the incident outside the Trump Hotel. President-elect Donald Trump’s Trump International Hotel is part of the Trump Organization.
FBI special agent Jeremy Schwartz later told reporters that it was still unclear whether the Tesla Cybertruck explosion was an act of terrorism.
Fireworks explode in Honolulu, Hawaii, killing three and injuring 20
Fireworks explode, followed by fire during New Year’s celebration in Honolulu, Hawaii, killing 3 and injuring 20 others. Two women died at the scene, and a third woman died at the hospital. AP reported.
Authorities said on Wednesday (1 Jan 2025) they urged people across the city to abandon their New Year tradition of bursting fireworks. Officials have promised stiff penalties for making and burning illegal fireworks.
Officials said some of the 20 people injured in the incident included children. And no one has yet been identified as charged in the incident, according to the AP. The firework explosion occurred in a three-story house with a lower-level carport.
New Year’s Day truck attack in New Orleans kills 15 and injures 30
US Army veteran Shamsud-Din Jabbar, 42, rammed his truck into crowds in the French Quarter in New Orleans on New Year’s Day, killing 15 and injuring 30. Reuters reported.
After the truck attack, 30 people, including two police officers, were injured in the firing by the suspects. According to Reuters, Jabbar, a US citizen from Texas who had once served in Afghanistan, was killed in a shootout with police after driving a truck into a crowd.
The incident occurred at approximately 3:15 a.m. local time (0915 GMT) near the intersection of Canal and Bourbon Streets.The crowd was celebrating the new year at this place.
Reuters also reported that the FBI said police found weapons and a possible explosive device in the attacker’s car. And an ISIS flag was seen flying from Jabbar’s truck during the incident.
Note: A total of 19 people were killed in separate incidents in three US cities on the first day of the new year.
