Chinese researchers have developed a new fiber-containing electronic device that can charge electrical clothing by collecting energy from the human body. As a result, there will be no need to use a separate battery or solar power to charge electric clothing. Meanwhile, they have developed electronics-infused fibers to create smart t-shirts that can display messages from smartphones on various areas of the clothing.
The fiber containing the electronics uses the electromagnetic energy of the atmosphere, which is part of the human body, as part of the circuit. This is called body-coupled fiber electronic technology. Â This technology does not require electronic chips or batteries. The journal Science has published a paper on this novel fiber.
Regarding the creation of the new fiber, Chengyi Hou, a scientist at Donghua University in Shanghai, China, said that in this technology, electromagnetic energy is converted into light and radio wave energy as it travels through the fiber.  After this energy comes into contact with the human body, the fiber generates electrical signals. Fibers exposed to the body can also be controlled via wireless signals.  The new fiber is just as fine and soft as conventional fibers. In the future, the hearing impaired will be able to use clothing made of this fiber to communicate with other people.  Various electronic appliances in the house can also be controlled through the carpet made of this fiber.
Luigi Occhipinti, a scientist at the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom, said that more research is needed to develop such electrical clothing in the fields of skin sensors and unconventional electronics. This new innovation will play a role in the creation of various health-related products in the future.
