The former speaker of the House of Representatives of the US Congress, Nancy Pelosi, underwent hip replacement surgery in Germany on Saturday (December 14, 2024), Associated press reports.
Former Speaker 84-year-old Pelosi is “on the mend,” said her spokesman, Ian Krager.
Pelosi was hospitalized for examination after suffering an injury while traveling to Luxembourg. She expressed thankfulness for the “care and kindness” shown by the employees of the hospital in Luxembourg and the regional medical center in the German city of Landstuhl.
As part of a bipartisan congressional delegation honoring the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge during World War II, Pelosi traveled to Europe. She was hurt when she tripped and fell during one of the events, according to Associated Press sources.
In 1987, Pelosi was elected to the House of Representatives for the first time. She was the speaker twice. Despite leaving her leadership role two years ago, Pelosi stayed in Congress and was re-elected in November of this year for a 20th term in the House of Representatives after defeating the Republican candidate in California’s 11th district.
