According to a Bloomberg report, Apple is in talks with Alphabet-owned Google about building the Gemini Al engine inside iPhones.
Citing people familiar with the matter, Bloomberg said the world’s two largest companies are in intense talks together for Gemini to power some new software features due to be released in iPhone software in late 2024.
It is anticipated that Apple will unveil iOS 18, the next major iPhone update, at its Worldwide Developers Conference. The company typically discusses its newest iPhone software at that time before releasing it to customers in the fall, and it can also discuss more about its plans for generative artificial intelligence at that time.
According to Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, the business is “investing significantly.” Al-A in February during the company’s annual shareholder meeting.
He also said that before the end of the year, we will be using generative al, another technology that has the potential to completely change the way we think about the future.
The sources cited by Bloomberg state that the company recently had discussions with OpenAl and contemplated using its model. But the two sides are yet to decide on the terms or branding of an Al deal or finalize how it will be implemented, the report claims.
But CNBC could not independently verify the Bloomberg report on this news. Apple declined to comment on the matter, and Alphabet did not respond when contacted by CNBC, according to CNBC’s sources.
