Germany’s Bild newspaper reported that 18 people were injured in a knife attack at Hamburg station on Friday evening, May 23, and local police confirmed that they had arrested the suspected attacker in the incident.
According to Bild, the motive for the attack is unclear, but four people are in critical condition and six are seriously injured in the knife attack.
Police said the suspected attacker in the incident was a 39-year-old woman. Surprisingly, she allowed herself to be arrested by police without any resistance.

Hamburg police spokesperson Florian Abbenseth said there was no evidence yet that the woman involved in the incident was politically motivated and that investigations were underway to determine whether she was mentally ill.
In response to the Hamburg knife attack, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said in a post on social media platform X that the news was “shocking” and that his thoughts were with the victims and their families.
