Mongolia: The Land of the Eternal Blue Sky

Mongolia

A landlocked and historically rich country sandwiched between Russia and China, Mongolia is known as the “Land of Eternal Blue Sky” due to its extreme continental climate and high altitude. One of the most beautiful countries in the world, Mongolia has low humidity, which prevents cloud formation, and the country averages over 250 clear, sunny days a year.

The country’s vast, open grasslands perfectly showcase deep blue skies and are full of natural beauty. As the world’s second-largest landlocked country and one of the least populous sovereign states, Mongolia is home to the Gobi Desert, lakes and reservoirs, and snow-capped mountains, making it a popular destination for nature-loving tourists.

The country’s capital city, Ulaanbaatar, is known as the coldest national capital in the world. Its culture is deeply rooted in a proud nomadic tradition and the legacy of the Mongol Empire founded by the influential figure in history, Genghis Khan, also known as Chinggis Khan.

Despite being filled with countless natural and historical attractions, Mongolia is the world’s least densely populated sovereign country, with only two people per square kilometer. It is the only place in the world to be home to the Przewalski’s horse (Takhi in Mongolian), the last truly wild horse species.

According to Tripadvisor, there are several best places to visit in Mongolia, including Gorkhi-Terelj National Park, Chinggis Khan Statue Complex, Gobi Desert, Sükhbaatar Square, National History Museum, Gandantegchenling Monastery, and Yolyn Am.
