American Oscar-winning actress Diane Keaton, known for her roles in Annie Hall and The Godfather series, died of pneumonia in Los Angeles on Saturday (October 11) at the age of 79, her family confirmed to People.

Keaton, who appeared in more than 60 films, marks the loss of one of Hollywood’s most celebrated actresses, whose decades-long career had important iconic roles and influences on American film, fashion, and culture.

“The Keaton family is very grateful for the extraordinary messages of love and support they have received these past few days on behalf of their beloved Diane, who passed away from pneumonia on October 11,” the late actress’s family said in a statement shared with People on October 15.

“She loved her animals and she was steadfast in her support of the unhoused community, so any donations in her memory to a local food bank or an animal shelter would be a wonderful and much appreciated tribute to her,” the family added.

Keaton never married, but he adopted two children, according to People. His first adopted child was Dexter Keaton, who is his only daughter. His younger child is Duke Keaton.
