A large-scale Russian attack on the southeastern Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia has killed one person, injured at least 24 people, and damaged infrastructure and residential buildings, authorities said on Saturday, August 30.
Three children were among the 24 people injured in Zaporizhzhia, according to regional governor Ivan Fedorov. Reuters reported that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described the impact of the attack in 14 regions, where more than 500 drones and 45 missiles were used.
Diplomatic efforts to stop Russia’s full-scale aggression have yet to yield significant results, despite US President Donald Trump’s crucial separate meetings with Russian and Ukrainian leaders in August.
Speaking to reporters on Friday, August 29, Zelenskyy outlined Trump’s self-imposed deadline for taking new measures against Russia if President Vladimir Putin does not commit to a private meeting with the Ukrainian leader.
However, Russia has said there is no agenda for a possible summit between Putin and Zelenskyy, according to Reuters.
On Saturday, Zelenskyy called on the international community, especially Western supporters, to impose sanctions on the Russian banking and energy sectors.

“It is absolutely clear that Moscow used the time meant for preparing a leaders-level meeting to organize new massive attacks,” he said.
The air force said five missiles and 24 drone strikes hit seven locations, and debris fell in 21 locations, Reuters reported, citing statements on the Telegram messaging app.
In August, Trump and Putin held a summit in Alaska on a peace deal, which many thought would at least lessen the impact of the Russian attack on Ukraine, but that did not happen.
