A Georgia appeals court has stayed the election meddling case against former US President Donald Trump and several of his co-defendants. This is a huge victory for the former American leader, who is trying to delay further litigation proceedings until 2025, according to CNN.

A new ruling by the Georgia Court of Appeals, announced Wednesday, June 5, is further evidence that the state’s election meddling trial will not begin until after the 2024 US presidential election.

The case will remain on hold while a group of judges determines whether or not to remove Fulton County District Attorney Fanny Willis from the case.

The appeals court is expected to rule on the suspension by March 2025, although it could happen sooner. Multiple sources told CNN that the timeline remains highly uncertain.

The appeals court’s ruling underscores a series of successes for Trump in his long-term strategy of forcing prosecutors to defend themselves and publicly criticize them.

Trump and some of the co-defendants in the massive election interference case sought to have Willis removed because of her romantic relationship with special counsel Nathan Wade, who was helping her lead the case.

Trump’s lawyer, Steve Sadow, called the court’s decision correct. Meanwhile, delays in the case against Trump over classified documents in Florida are also working in the former US president’s favor. As with the Georgia case, there is no set trial date for the classified documents case.
