Four-digit PINs (Personal Identity Numbers) are required for a variety of purposes, such as ATM cards, mobile banking, and e-commerce websites, in addition to passwords on smartphones. But for ease of memory, a lot of people use standard PINs. Despite its simplicity, there are still an equal number of users sharing the same pin. Therefore, cybercriminals can simply steal money and personal information by gathering these PINs. An organization called “Information is Beautiful,” which works on online information security, has released a list of the four PIN digits that are most frequently used after examining approximately 0.34 million documents that were leaked online at various points in time.
According to reports, the pin that is presently being used the most worldwide is “1234”. ‘1111’ and ‘0000’ come in second and third. ‘1212’, ‘7777’, ‘1004’, ‘2000’, ‘4444’, ‘2222’, and ‘6969’ come after it, in that order. Upon examining these pins, certain patterns emerged. The majority of users sequence letters on the keyboard from left to right as PINs, sometimes even repeating numbers.
Jake Moore, global cyber security advisor at cyber security company Eset, stated the value of having a strong PIN and mentioned that users of weak passcodes are top targets for hackers. However, a lot of people still have their own birthdate.
Alternatively, they could employ a variety of related and easily deciphered data-dependent codes.
