One person was killed and several others injured when a train derailed after colliding with a car in southern Denmark on Friday, August 15, Reuters reported.
Pictures from the scene after the accident showed a carriage torn from the train and lying on its side, the Danish state-owned television channel TV2 reported.
Police in Denmark’s Southern Jutland region said in a press release that one of the 95 people on the train was killed and several others were injured, two of whom were transported by helicopter.
According to Reuters, the incident occurred when the train hit a car at a road crossing, national rail system operator Banedanmark said on X.
Denmark’s national railway operator, state-owned DSB (Danske Statsbaner), separately said it had stopped all journeys between the towns of Kliplev and Tinglev, near Denmark’s border with Germany, according to reports.
Past Train Accident
Earlier in 2019, a terrible rail accident occurred in Denmark where a train collided with a semi-trailer truck on the Great Belt Bridge, killing 8 people and injuring 16 others.
However, the worst rail disaster in Danish history is still the 1919 Vigerslev train disaster, which killed 40 people and injured more than 60.
