Newly elected Trump mocked Justin Trudeau, saying Canada should be a US state

As Prime Minister Justin Trudeau attempts to manage the crisis resulting from the abrupt resignation of Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland, US President-elect Donald Trump once again mocked Canada, reported Bloomberg.

“No one can answer why we subsidize Canada to the tune of over $100,000,000 (One hundred million) a year? Makes no sense! Many Canadians want Canada to become the 51st State. They would save massively on taxes and military protection. I think it is a great idea. 51st State!!!” On Wednesday, December 18, Trump posted a message on the social media platform Truth Social.

Since the Canadian leader met with the US president-elect at his Mar-a-Lago Beach, Trump has been making jokes about Canada becoming the 51st US state and Trudeau becoming governor. However, the seemingly humorous comments have taken on a more ominous tone as Trudeau is now fighting for political survival.

Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland has resigned. Trudeau lost chief minister of Canada. Trump welcomed Freeland’s resignation, calling the minister “toxic.” Trudeau, whose popularity has plummeted amid discontent over rising prices and the housing crisis, became more politically vulnerable in September when the New Democratic Party scrapped the 2022 coalition agreement.
