British rockstar Morrissey, 66, has cancelled upcoming concerts in the US states of Massachusetts and Connecticut after receiving reports of threats against his life.

Morrissey, formerly of the rock band The Smiths, said in a post on Instagram on Friday, September 19, that he had canceled shows at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut, on Friday night and at MGM Music Hall at Fenway on Saturday.

“Due to recent events and out of an abundance of caution for the safety of both the artist and band, the upcoming shows this weekend at Foxwoods and MGM Music Hall have been cancelled. All tickets will be refunded automatically at your original point of purchase,” the post read.

MGM Music Hall posted a more sensational message on Instagram, saying that the show had been canceled after a “credible threat on Morrissey’s life” was made.

Morrissey was canceled just days after reportedly receiving death threats against him before a concert in Ottawa, Canada, which led to the arrest of 26-year-old Noah Castellano.

NBC NEWS reported that the cancellation also came amid a backdrop of political violence in the United States.

Conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who played a key role during Trump’s election campaign, was assassinated on September 10th while speaking at a college campus event in Utah, sparking unrest in the United States.
