The country’s Bureau of Civil Aviation Authority (BCAC) has instructed that baggage should be delivered to passengers within 30 minutes of landing at Indian airports. Seven airlines in India have been asked to implement the directive from February 26. The airlines are – Air India, IndiGo, Alaska, SpiceJet, Vistara, AIK Connect and Air India Express.
In January, the BCAC monitored the baggage delivery situation at six major airports in India, namely Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad and Bangalore, Hindustan Times reported. After that, the country’s Civil Aviation Affairs Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia asked to give instructions in this regard.
A statement from India’s Ministry of Civil Aviation said that since the beginning of this review process, the performance of all airlines has been reviewed on a weekly basis. This time they have improved, but still not in time. Following engine shutdown, the first bag should be on the belt within 10 minutes, and the last bag should be on the belt within 30 minutes, according to the instructions.
While currently monitoring the implementation of this directive at six airports, BCAC has directed airlines to implement this deadline at all airports.
