Announcing his retirement on social media, he wrote, ‘It was an incredible journey! I’m very lucky to have played the game I love the most, at its highest level.’
Fellaini also said that he feels proud to play for different clubs and he feels honored to play in the Belgium national team. Fellaini played for the Belgium national team in the 2008 Olympics, 2016 Euro and 2014 and 2018 World Cups. The golden generation of Hazard, Lukaku, De Bruyne, Fellaini finished third in the 2018 World Cup. He scored 18 goals in 87 matches for Belgium.
