Inter Miami’s Lionel Messi kicked off the first month of 2025 with a win on Saturday, January 18, at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, beating Mexico’s Club América on penalties. Henry Martín scored in the 31st minute for Club América to give the team a one-goal lead in the first half. But three minutes later, Messi equalized with a header in the 34th minute for Inter Miami, assisted by Suárez.
second half
In the second half of the game, Israel Reyes scored for Club América in the 52nd minute to give the team a 2-1 lead. Since then, Miami has been scoreless. And the Miami coach called Messi from the field in the 65th minute.
In the 92nd minute of the game, center back Tomás Avilés scored a header for Miami to level the score at 2–2 and reach penalties. Inter Miami beat Club América 3-2 in a penalty shootout to win their first match of 2025.
Messi’s achievements in 2024
In 2024, Messi scored a total of 21 goals, 16 assists, and 36 goal contributions for Miami in Major League Soccer. And last year Messi won the Copa América for Argentina and the Supporters’ Shield for Miami. And Messi received the MLS MVP award in 2024.
