China has developed a hypersonic smart shell. The sophisticated weapons delivery system is capable of transporting warheads seven times faster than sound. Chinese naval scientists have developed a smart shell capable of accurately hitting targets at hypersonic speeds, the South China Morning Post reported. Beijing claims the missile can travel at Mach seven, or seven times the speed of sound. It is also able to change its travel path using a satellite navigation system.
The error limit of this missile is only 15 meters, that is, even if fired from a long distance, it is capable of hitting the target accurately within 15 meters. Due to the margin of error it would not be very effective against military vehicles such as tanks but would be quite effective against large installations such as warships or ports.
Military Technology Development SCMC said it is based on the US Navy’s proposed Dream Shell. The Dream Shell is a weapon system that would theoretically travel at Mach Five speeds and be guided by GPS satellite signals. The US military first proposed the concept in 2012. Washington announced its intention to test the Dream Shell within five years. But that time has passed in 2017.
In 2021, the US Army abandoned research and implementation of this project. The Chinese team that developed the Max 7 shell also said that when the United States first started developing the technology, they themselves received no support from Western scientists.
Feng Junhing of China’s Naval University of Engineering wrote in an engineering journal in November, “We have had no guidance or even a direct role for guided missile navigation systems, especially satellite navigation components.”
Shell technology is expected to be widely used in battlefield situations, as it is relatively cost-effective to produce. But the long-range accurate striking ability is also one of the main features of this missile. During the launch, however, the shells generate a significant amount of electromagnetic field, which can later damage electronic components such as microchips or antennas.

Chinese scientists say they have overcome this problem by creating an antenna that can withstand electromagnetic signals, while also maintaining accurate satellite navigation.
Beijing’s navy recently said that it has achieved one success after another in the development of weapons, especially in the field of electromagnetic weapons. Military experts say that China’s advanced missiles will challenge the Western world.
Beijing’s military budget is more than 20 billion dollars. But the United States is still much less. The size of the military budget of the United States is four times that of China. The decision to increase military spending at a faster rate than the growth in the sugar economy suggests that the country is determined to strengthen its armed forces.
