Novak Djokovic started week 419 last Monday as the top player in the men’s rankings. The 36-year-old Serbian star also set a new record for being the oldest player to top the ATP rankings on April 8, after that week ended yesterday. The previous record was held by 20-time Grand Slam winner Roger Federer.
Federer was last at the top of the ranking on June 24, 2018. He was then 36 years and 320 days old. Djokovic was 36 years and 321 days old on the last day of the week yesterday, April 8. At the end of the week, 24 Grand Slam winner Djokovic retained the top spot at the age of 36 years and 322 days. The ATP rankings were published for the first time on August 23, 1973.
After Djokovic and Federer, the next two on this record are Rafael Nadal and Andre Agassi. At the age of 33 years and 244 days, Nadal, who won 22 Grand Slams, was at the top of the rankings. Eight-time Grand Slam winner Agassi was at the top at the age of 33 years and 131 days.
