France, Germany, and the United Kingdom have called on Iran and its allies to refrain from attacks on Israel. In a joint statement issued on Monday, August 12, 2024, by the British government, they said retaliation would increase regional tensions and threaten negotiations for a ceasefire in Gaza.
The statement said there should be no further delays in the negotiations and thanked mediation partners, including the United States, Egypt, and Qatar.
“We will work with all parties to avoid escalation and will spare no effort to reduce tensions and find a path to stability,” the statement said.

The countries also said the fighting must end and all hostages still held by Hamas must be released, adding that the people of Gaza need “urgent and unrestricted delivery and distribution of aid.”
On August 8, the United States, Qatar, and Egypt issued a joint statement demanding an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. The countries demanded that Israel and Hamas immediately comply with the agreement reached in May, which sets a three-phase end to the conflict.
The initial meeting to negotiate the agreement is scheduled to take place on Thursday, August 15. The location has not yet been defined; however, it should be in Egypt or Qatar, with Israel’s presence confirmed. The extremist group has not yet responded to the invitation.
