The West Bengal government’s health department on October 24 extended the ban on the manufacture, sale, and distribution of gutkha and panmasala products containing tobacco or nicotine for another year, effective November 7. Indiatoday reported.
According to the state health department’s notice, it “prohibits the sale of food items that contain tobacco and/or nicotine as ingredients, as they may be harmful to health.”
Health & Family Welfare Department: “regalation 2.3.4 of the Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restrictions on Sales) Regulations 2011 made by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India & in exercise of the powers conferred by clause (i) of sub-section (2) of section 92 of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 (Central Act 34 of 2006) read with section 26 thereof, prohibits sale of articles of food in which tobacco and/or nicotine are used as ingredients, as they may be injurious to health.”
According to many, various railway stations, roadsides, and various places have turned into dirty places due to the spit produced after consuming Panmasala and Gutkha products. As a result, the clean areas are getting dirty day by day.
