Lionel Messi continues his historic achievements at the age of 38. He won Major League Soccer’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) award for the second consecutive time on Tuesday after leading Inter Miami to their first MLS title and leading the league in goals.
Messi is the first player to win back-to-back MVP awards since Preki in 1997 and 2003 with the Kansas City Wizards (now Sporting Kansas City) and only the second MLS player to win two Most Valuable Player awards overall.
The 38-year-old Argentine star scored 29 goals in the regular season of Major League Soccer and won the Golden Boot. He added another trophy to his career when he won the MLS Cup. Messi currently has 48 trophies, reportedly more than Cristiano Ronaldo.
However, Messi has dominated the MLS Golden Boot, MVP, and title with his outstanding performances and skills. Messi also had two assists in the MLS Cup final, where Inter Miami defeated the Vancouver Whitecaps 3-1 at Chase Stadium, Fort Lauderdale.
Additionally, World Cup winner Messi also became only the second player to lead the league in regular-season goals and assists, joining Toronto FC’s Sebastian Giovinco in 2015.
