Lionel Messi continues his incredible journey in Major League Soccer (MLS). Despite not scoring in a match against the New England Revolution at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, on October 4, the Inter Miami captain provided three assists and generated 40 goals in the 2025 season.

But beyond the match, the milestone is even more impressive: with those three assists, the Argentine star has reached 100 direct goal contributions with Inter Miami in just 80 games. He has scored 66 goals and provided 34 assists.

Messi, 38, is enjoying his best moment at Inter Miami since arriving in the United States, and his club has already secured a ticket to the MLS playoffs, but the team is now looking to climb the league table with strong performances so that they can participate more dynamically in the postseason.

Chasing two records

Messi’s first big target is to equal the record of Carlos Vela, who contributed 49 goals in a season for Los Angeles FC in 2019. Although it seemed impossible, Messi has a golden opportunity to achieve it if he continues to score goals and assists before the end of the season.

Messi’s second big target is to reach 400 assists in his professional career, a legendary number and one he will achieve very soon. He reached 395 with three assists this weekend. No active footballer has ever reached more than 300, which clearly highlights Messi’s extraordinary technical skills.

In an increasingly competitive league, Messi’s contributions have elevated Inter Miami to the top and helped solidify the game’s popularity in the United States and give MLS its new identity around the world.
