Egyptian footballer Mohamed Salah has ended months of speculation about his future by signing a two-year contract extension with Liverpool, Premier League leaders said on Friday, April 11.
Forward Salah, 32, who joined Liverpool on 22 June 2017 from Italian-based club AS Roma, could have left the club for free in the summer, and his contract was due to expire in June.
“I’m very excited. We have a great team now. Before also we had a great team. But I signed because I think we have a chance to win other trophies and enjoy my football,” Salah, who has been in excellent form this season, told the club’s website.
He says, “I had my best years here. I played for eight years; hopefully it’s going to be 10. Enjoying my life here, enjoying my football.”
Salah paid tribute to the club’s fans and promised to give his best and promised to win trophies in the future.
Since Salah’s arrival at the club, Liverpool have won one Premier League title in eight years, with the potential to win another in the 2024-25 season, as well as a Champions League Cup (won in 2019), an FA Cup, two League Cups, the UEFA Super Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup (won in 2019).
He has been a standout performer for Liverpool in the 2024-25 season, scoring 32 goals in all competitions and leading the race for the Premier League Golden Boot with 27 goals.
Liverpool are 11 points ahead of second-placed Arsenal F.C. in the Premier League this season, but both teams still have seven games remaining.
Salah, a three-time Premier League Golden Boot winner, has a strong connection with the club, with 243 goals in 394 appearances for Liverpool, making him the club’s third-highest scorer of all time.
According to Reuters, Salah, 32, one of the best players, was reported to be the subject of interest from the big-money Saudi Pro League but is widely seen as key to Liverpool’s hopes of consistently winning silverware given his own form over the years.
