For the first time, Saudi Arabia is going to participate in the Miss Universe pageant. The name of the first female participant is Rumy Al-Qahtani.
The historic move by Saudi Arabia shocked the world, as women in that country have long observed various restrictions under conservative Islamic law.
This Miss Universe pageant will be held in September in Mexico. Al-Qahtani is said to be ready to take part in that competition. And he is participating in this competition for the first country.
Participating in this competition shows that the Saudi government is stepping up to expand the rights and freedoms of women there.
Rumy Al-Qahtani, age 27, is a Saudi model by profession and very popular on social media. And she will participate in the Miss World pageant.
Her pageant debut was revealed when Qahtani posted on her Instagram account on Monday, announcing her participation in Miss Universe.
After winning the title of Miss Saudi Arabia in 2021, she went on to win several more pageants, including Miss Middle East and Miss Arab World Peace. Women’s magazine Laha claims that Qahtani was educated in dentistry and was born in Riyadh. He speaks English, French, and Arabic with ease.
Since the appointment of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud in June 2017, the country has taken several steps to improve gender equality in the Vision 2030 project, modernize the country, and reduce its dependence on the oil-based economy.
