Portuguese forward Cristiano Ronaldo has acquired a 25% stake in Spanish club Almeria through his company CR7 Sports, the club said on Thursday (February 26).
Almeria, a Spanish second-tier club, was relegated from La Liga in the 2023–24 season and was then taken over by Saudi Arabia-based SMC Group in May 2025. Mohamed Al-Khereiji then took over as the club’s owner and president. However, SMC Group did not disclose the financial terms of Ronaldo’s deal.
“The agreement is part of the international expansion of the club driven by president Mohamed Al Kereiji through his business holding SMC Group,” Almeria said in a statement, according to Reuters.
Soccer star Ronaldo joined Saudi club Al-Nassr as a free agent in December 2022 and received a huge salary as per the contract. He previously played for English club Manchester United. He also spent nine years in Madrid and won four Ballon d’Ors during his time at the club.
In a statement shared by Almeria, Ronaldo, 41, said the club’s foundations are strong and there is clear growth potential. He expressed his desire to work with the club’s leadership team to help it reach a new stage of development.
Almeria holds one second-tier title and has reached the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey once. The club is currently third in the Spanish second division table.
