Israeli forces have returned to Jabalia in northern Gaza this week, claiming that Hamas is regrouping. On Wednesday, five Israeli soldiers died in their own shelling. The Israeli army and the Palestinian Authority’s Hamas, both sides, reported heavy clashes in Jabalia and Rafah today.
According to the Israeli army, the five young paratroopers who lost their lives were from the brigade’s 202nd battalion. Two Israeli tanks arrived at the Jabalia refugee camp on Wednesday morning. They took shelter in a house there. Paratroopers arrived around 7:30 p.m. The infantry mistook the house they boarded in Jabalia camp for a gun barrel sticking out of the window. Two rounds fired from the tank killed five young paratroopers. Seven others were injured. Three of them are in critical condition. The Israeli army declared that a thorough investigation would be carried out in this regard.
On the other hand, in Rafah, southern Gaza, nearly 0.6 million people have been displaced in the last ten days. There are currently more than 1 million homeless people in refugee camps. Since the start of the Israel-Hamas war on October 27 last year, 278 Israeli soldiers have died so far. Of those, 44, or 15 percent, died in “wartime accidents,” according to the Israeli army’s website.
The Israeli Health Ministry, which is controlled by Hamas, reports that over 35,000 civilians lost their lives in Gaza to date.
