WHAT DOES ‘ALL EYES ON RAFAH’ MEAN?
The phrase ‘All eyes on Rafah‘ is a call to action to draw the world’s attention to what is happening in the Palestinian city. After the Israeli air strikes last Sunday on a tent camp, where displaced Palestinians were ‘safe’ according to the Israeli army, the expression is being widely shared on social media.
AI IMAGE SHARED 37 MILLION TIMES
On Instagram, a picture of a refugee camp with the words “All eyes on Rafah” written in the shape of tent camps is making the rounds. The AI image was taken by a photographer from Singapore and has already been shared by more than 37 million Instagram users.
A pro-Israel ‘counter-image’ is now also doing the rounds on X: an Al-generated photo of the Hamas attack in Israel on October 7.
WHAT IS HAPPENING IN RAFAH?
The war in Gaza continues mercilessly. The Israeli army launched a military offensive in and around Rafah on May 6. Earlier, more than 1.4 million Palestinians fled towards the city in the south of the Gaza Strip.
Israeli forces say they are targeting Hamas battalions, but they have also attacked refugee camps and killed dozens of Palestinian civilians. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the army would invade the city “with or without an agreement” to achieve its goal of destroying the terror group Hamas.
