Meta plans to remove the ‘News’ tab from Facebook in Australia and the US as early as next month. Earlier, popular social media blocked this tab in the UK, France, and Germany.
Facebook’s News tab usually displays bookmarked content and ‘News Stories’. “We know that most people on Facebook don’t watch news and politics and don’t care,” Meta said. They want to connect with others, explore new opportunities, and pursue their interests through Facebook. By 2023, less than 3% of Facebook feeds are said to be news content. As a result, it is very insignificant in this huge area of Facebook. Rather, we emphasize what interests people. They are more interested in watching short videos on Facebook.

Even if the News tab is closed, the opportunity to follow the Facebook pages of news publishers and view links to news articles is not stopped. However, the news tab is closing in on revenue from existing contracts with news publishers. Mater has no plans to enter into any contracts with news publishers in the future. The company will not even provide any news-related services.
