US President Donald Trump told the United Nations General Assembly at UN headquarters in New York City on Tuesday, September 23, that he hopes “countless people from all over the globe” will attend the upcoming 2026 World Cup and 2028 Olympics, Reuters reported.

In a wide-ranging speech on Tuesday, President Trump said the United States will celebrate the 250th anniversary of its independence next year. “We will also be proudly hosting the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and shortly thereafter, the 2028 Olympics,” he said.

“It’s going to be very exciting. I hope you all come. I hope that countless people from all over the globe will take part.”

FIFA (Fédération International Football Association) announced earlier this month that it had received more than 1.5 million ticket applications from fans in 210 countries in the presale draw within 24 hours. Those who applied must have a Visa card with 3D Secure activated. The 2026 World Cup will be hosted in Mexico, Canada, and the United States, with 48 teams participating for the first time and 104 matches being played in 16 host cities.

According to FIFA data, the presale draw saw the largest demand for tickets worldwide for the tournament coming from the United States, Mexico, and Canada (the three host countries of the World Cup), followed by Argentina, Colombia, and Brazil.
