Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, will receive a job offer from Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump should he be re-elected.
In an interview with Reuters on Monday (Aug. 19, 2024), after a rally in York, Pennsylvania, the Republican said that the billionaire could serve in an office or consulting role.
“He’s a very smart guy. I would certainly nominate him; if he accepted, I would certainly nominate him. He’s a brilliant guy,” Trump said.
After Trump was fatally shot during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13, Musk openly endorsed the Republican candidate in this year’s election.

The owner of X (formerly Twitter) conducted an interview with the former president on August 12. At the time, he joked that “illegal immigration saved his life” and that he advocates abolishing the US Department of Education.
In his interview with Reuters on Monday (Aug 19), Trump also signaled the possibility of eliminating a $7,500 tax incentive for electric car purchases in the U.S., something that could affect Tesla, one of the main automakers of such vehicles.
“Tax credits and tax incentives are generally not a very good thing,” he said.
The Republican, however, noted that he had not made “a final decision” on the issue. “I’m a big fan of electric cars, but I’m also a fan of gasoline-powered cars, hybrids, and whatever else comes along,” he said.
