Three Israeli settlers and two agricultural companies were the targets of sanctions levied by the US on Thursday due to allegations of violence and instability in the West Bank.
Washington has launched sanctions against Israeli settlers for the second time this year. In the aftermath of Hamas’ October 7 attack in southern Israel, tensions are building in the West Bank. It is thought that in response, the US took this action.
According to a statement from US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller, “We are taking further steps to hold accountable those who continue to perpetuate violence and unrest in the West Bank.”
According to the website of the US Treasury Department, the three individuals who have been sanctioned are JV Bar Yosef, Neria Ben Pazi, and Moshe Sharvit. They once lived in Israel, then moved to the West Bank.
Apart from this, the two agricultural farms that have been banned are Moses Farm and Jovis Farm. The farms are located near existing settlements in Halamish. JV Bar Yosef is the owner and founder of JV’s Farm. And Moshe Sharvit is the owner and founder of Moshe’s Farm. These two farms were used as bases from which violence against Palestinians was carried out.
Any assets associated with these individuals and organizations will be seized under this ban. Also, US citizens are prohibited from doing business with them.
At least 430 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces or settlers in the West Bank since October 7, according to Palestinian authorities. On the other hand, the AFP has taken into account the information received from Israel. According to them, this number is about 1,160 people, most of whom are civilians.
