Vancouver defeated Inter Miami 3-1 in the second leg of the Concacaf Champions Cup semi-finals on April 30 at Chase Stadium, Florida to advance to the final.
Miami took a 1-0 lead against Vancouver in the first half after Jordi Alba scored a goal in the 9th minute, assisted by Luis Suárez.
Then in the second half, Brian White scored in the 51st minute to tie Vancouver at 1-1. Shortly after, Pedro Vite scored in the 53rd minute, and Sebastian Berhalter scored in the 71st minute, giving Vancouver a 3-1 victory over Miami. Berhalter had 2 assists in the match, which played a key role in the team’s victory.
Lionel Messi played the full match against Vancouver in the second leg, taking six shots but failing to score. This defeat ended Messi’s and Miami’s dream of winning the Concacaf Champions Cup this year.
Vancouver Whitecaps defeated Miami 5-1 on aggregate over two legs in the semi-finals. In the quarter-finals of the 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup, the Mexican club Monterrey defeated Miami 5-2 on aggregate over two legs.
Miami will face New York Red Bulls in MLS on May 3, and Messi’s team is in fifth position in the points table with 18. In addition to competing in the MLS, Miami has important tournaments ahead of it, including the FIFA Club World Cup and the Leagues Cup, and it remains to be seen how Messi’s team performs there.
