Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv on August 23 that his country was not a neutral or indifferent observer and was always on the side of peace.
โWe stayed out of the war with complete confidence, but that never meant we were just indifferent observers. We have never been neutral, and we had a side from day one; our side was peace… Therefore, when I came to the land of Ukraine, I came with a message of peace,โ Modi said.
He clarified that, while respecting the state’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, India supports diplomatic efforts to bring about peace in Ukraine.
“I want to tell you and the whole world that this is our belief and our commitment, and we say it very loudly and clearly that we support respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity. This is of paramount importance to us,” declared the Indian government.
Modi said that during his visit to Moscow in July, he told the President of the Russian Federation that problems cannot be solved on the battlefield, and the only way to solve them is through dialogue and diplomacy, and it is necessary to move in this direction.

“Both sides will have to sit down together and look for ways out of this crisis,” he emphasized.
Modi added that he wants to discuss ways to resolve the situation and restore peace in Ukraine with Zelensky during a personal meeting.
โI want to assure you that India is ready to play an active role in any peace effort. If I can play a role in this personally, I will, I want to assure you as a friend,” said the head of the Indian government. noted
The visit of the head of the government of India is the first official visit of a high-ranking representative of this country to Ukraine since the declaration of independence.
In early July, Narendra Modi visited Moscow and met with Vladimir Putin, after which both sides announced the establishment of closer cooperation.
