Barcelona coach Hansi Flick and his assistant Marcus Sorg have been banned for one match in UEFA club competitions for misconduct and fined 20,000 euros ($23,320), the European football governing body’s disciplinary committee said on Friday, August 8.
The main reason for the ban is that Flick was angered by several refereeing decisions after the semi-final defeat to Inter Milan in May, which ended their dreams of reaching the Champions League final.
The sanctions will take effect immediately, with Flick and Sorg being banned from the dugout for one Champions League match this season, Reuters reported.
Fines imposed on Yamal and Lewandowski
In a separate decision, UEFA fined Barcelona forwards Lamine Yamal, 18, and Robert Lewandowski 5,000 euros (approximately $5,821) each for failing to comply with the instructions of an anti-doping officer and not reporting to a control post immediately during the same match.
In addition to the coach, assistant, and players, Barcelona was fined 5,250 euros for objects thrown by fans and another 2,500 euros for setting off fireworks during the match.
On the other hand, Inter Milan was not spared from punishment either, as the club was fined 22,000 euros for fans blocking public roads and 11,500 euros for setting off fireworks.
