On Monday (March 2), American tech giant Amazon announced that it would invest an additional $21 billion (18 billion euros) in Spain to expand its data centers and boost AI innovation. The company’s investment will bring its total investment in Spain to $39.05 billion (33.7 billion euros).

Amazon announced the massive investment after Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez met with Amazon’s Chief Global Affairs and Legal Officer David Zapolsky at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2026, the world’s largest mobile and telecom technology exhibition and conference in Barcelona.

According to Zapolsky, the investment will create 30,000 jobs by 2035 and make Spain the epicenter of the company’s artificial intelligence operations in Europe.

According to Reuters, Amazon announced in 2025 that its cloud computing unit Amazon Web Services (AWS) would invest 15.7 billion euros in data centers in the northeastern Aragon region of Spain. The investment is expected to support the creation of an estimated average of more than 17,000 jobs per year through local companies by 2033.
