An Israel bomb targets an area near the Beirut airport in Lebanon

On Thursday, October 3, 2024, Israel bombed areas close to Beirut International Airport, which is situated in the Laylaki neighborhood to the south of the capital city of Lebanon. The target was a Hezbollah bunker, where leaders of the group met, according to the New York Times. Regarding the number of dead or injured, official information is lacking.

Hashem Safieddine, a possible new leader of the Lebanese extremist group after the death of former Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah on Saturday (28. September), was at the scene of the bombings. The IDF (Israel Defense Forces) has not yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

The current situation there is very dire. According to a Hindustan Times report, there are over 4,000 Indians in Lebanon, with a majority of them employed as workers in companies, the construction sector, agricultural farms, etc., and the Center has urged all of them to leave at the earliest.

Many people’s conditions have gotten worse as a result of the Israeli strikes. According to the prime minister of Lebanon, 1.2 million people are displaced. The prime minister of Lebanon, Najib Mikati, has estimated that 1.2 million people have been internally displaced.
