The duck was rescued in 2007. In the US state of Rhode Island, an animal sanctuary organized a program to celebrate the duck’s birthday. Today is the 17th birthday of the duck named Irna.
The West Place Animal Sanctuary celebrates Irna the Crested Pekin Duck’s birthday on April 1.
Wendy Taylor, founder and executive director of The West Place Animal Sanctuary, said Irna is not the only resident here. He spends time here willingly with ducklings, baby birds, and other children.
“He’s definitely a special duck,” Taylor told WLNE TV. She takes care of many duck orphans with her maternal instinct. As a result, it has become easier for us to keep these children alive in the sanctuary.
Irna is a constant source of inspiration and joy, Taylor told Newsport Buzz. Her maternal instincts improve the lives of both humans and animals, in addition to saving the lives of other animals.

Crested Pekin ducks typically live up to 12 years. Living this long is a huge milestone for Irna, Taylor said.
Farm animals don’t live that long for a variety of reasons, Taylor said. Irna is the greatest gift to West Place because she has lived here for so long.
According to Guinness World Records, Irna would have to live many years to become the world’s oldest duck. But that record is currently held by two pairs of ducks owned by Gladys Blackbeard of Grahamstown, South Africa. Â Their age is 49 years.
