Due to an injury, Lionel Messi is not included in the Inter Miami roster. Playing without Argentina’s World Cup-winning captain in every game, Miami understands how vital he is to the team. Without him, Gerardo Martino’s team played four matches with New York City FC today in Major League Soccer. They lost two, won one, and drew one.
The one game Miami won without Messi was against DC United, where Luis Suarez scored twice. Today, the star Uruguayan scored goals. Miami could not win, though. In today’s Major League Soccer match against New York City, Suarez took the lead, but the Florida squad ended up tied 1-1.
Former Barcelona and Liverpool striker Suarez scored the goal that gave Miami the lead in the 15th minute. Suarez scored with a superb header from Julian Gressel’s measured free-kick from the box. But in the 34th minute, New York City’s Costa Rican forward, Alonso Martinez, paid off that goal.
Miami ramped up its attack after falling behind in its previous game in Major League Soccer, a 4-0 loss to the New York Red Bulls. They also make some good attacks. But they did not get the goal due to the outstanding performance of New York City’s American goalkeeper, Matthew Freese.
Central to all of Friese’s brilliant saves would be denying Suarez in the 80th minute. With one hand, he returned the remarkable shot that the Uruguayan striker had taken. After this draw, Miami is in second place in the Eastern Conference of the MLS with 11 points in 7 matches. Martino’s team is in the same position in both conferences.
In another match of the day, Cincinnati is back at the top of the MLS points list with a 1-1 draw away from Charlotte. After playing six matches, the team has 12 points.
