Dmytro Kuleba, the foreign minister of Ukraine, resigned on Wednesday, September 4, 2024. It is part of a possible restructuring of the cabinet led by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky (Servant of the People, center).
The formal resignation will be put to a vote at a parliamentary meeting in the coming days, according to a statement made by Speaker of the Parliament Ruslan Stefanchuk.
In addition to Dmytro Kuleba, 5 other ministers resigned on Tuesday (September 3) as part of the reshuffle:
- Look Stefanishyna (Deputy Prime Minister)
- Denys Malisuka (Minister of Justice)
- Oleksandr Kamyshin (Minister of Strategic Industries)
- Ruslan Strilets (Minister of Environment)
- Iryna Vereshchuk (Minister of Reintegration)
Volodymyr Zelenskyy highlighted the importance of government changes to strengthen the country’s administration in the face of the Russian invasion.
“For Ukraine, autumn will be very significant. The president stated, “And our state institutions must be set up so that Ukraine achieves all the results we need-for all of us,” as reported by Reuters.

Fear of tension
The war in Ukraine has intensified, with Russian forces advancing in eastern Ukraine and Ukrainian incursions into the Russian Kursk area. This is made even more dire by Moscow’s increasing use of drone and missile strikes and Ukraine’s counterattacks on Russian energy infrastructure.
With the government changes, Ukraine aims to adapt the country’s leadership to better respond to these challenges. More than half of Ukraine’s ministers are expected to be replaced during the reshuffle, with new appointments expected.
